PA material, polyamide or commonly called nylon, is manufactured by Ensinger in standard stock shapes for machining in sheet, rod and tube. There are often numbers associated with nylon plastics types such as 6, 66, 12 and 46. These numbers relate to the molecular structure of the nylon polymer and each structure type will have different properties. The most common polyamide plastics are Nylon 6 extruded, cast PA 6 and Nylon 66 (PA66).

Nylon fiber was the material’s first incarnation into commercial success with the development of nylon stockings (preceded for about a year by nylon toothbrush bristles). It has since been incorporated into numerous textiles used not only in clothing but in applications requiring light, strong fabrics: tents, parachutes, ropes, tire belts, etc.
